Sound is an extremely important part of our thriller which we want to consider throughout and have it planned before hand in order to review it and correct it so it reflects our film as well as possible; however will be one of the last things we do. It has the capability to set the scene, give the audience emotions and create tension in chosen parts. We want our sound element to be sophisticated and fit in with our film.
Here are some things we will consider as we make our film:
- Dialogue e.g. how to record, problems with mixing, a voiceover
- Incidental music/ sound effects
- Layering and levels creating different effects
- Timing such as when we want it to stop and start
- What effects/ impact do we want it to have in our film? How much do we want it to be noticed?
- Use for tension, jump scares, use of silence
Films produced have significantly good scores/ soundtracks are also known to be the best films made. Some of these include Jaws, Titanic and Star Wars. For example, as we all know the basic plot for the film 'Jaws' and the sound effects to go with it. The soundtrack was made by John Williams and it increases the popularity of the film having a distinctive sound making the film overall better.
